Know the file.
Plan the wait.

Before you start an upload, turn your own export bitrate and upload speed into a transparent file-size and transfer-time estimate.

1 · Describe your export

Video bitrate starting points

These SDR video-bitrate starting points reflect YouTube's published upload recommendations. Keep the value your export actually uses.

2 · Describe your connection

Headroom reserves some measured bandwidth for network variation and other activity. It is not a platform requirement.

An estimate, not a queue position

Separate the transfer from everything after it.

File size is estimated from duration × total bitrate, with 8 bits per byte. Transfer time then divides those estimated megabits by your effective upload speed. The result intentionally leaves room for your own network conditions.

This does not measure your connection, inspect a file, select a codec, validate a platform limit, start an upload, predict platform processing, account for retries, data caps, Wi-Fi changes, or guarantee a completion time. Check your editor's export summary and the destination platform's current requirements before publishing.
