The planner counts backward from the outdoor date you enter. For a packet that says “start 6–8 weeks before,” the earlier calendar date is eight weeks before and the later date is six weeks before. It separately counts the hardening-off days back from that same outdoor date.

Use the actual packet for the variety in front of you and choose the outdoor date from your own local plan. University of Minnesota Extension describes gradually increasing outdoor time and light over 7–10 days when hardening off seedlings.
