This tool applies the published English Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level formulas to word, sentence, and estimated syllable counts. A higher Reading Ease number is generally easier to read; a grade is an estimate of U.S. school grade level.

The syllable count is a transparent browser-side estimate, so it can differ from another editor's dictionary or language settings. Short headings, lists, names, abbreviations, quoted material, specialist terms, audience knowledge, accuracy, structure, and tone all matter beyond these numbers.

Do not use this as a quality score, a grammar check, an accessibility audit, a school placement decision, a medical or legal suitability check, or a promise of search ranking or reader comprehension. See Microsoft's published formula notes ↗
